It seems hard to remember a time when teh cafetière was an object of luxury.

For Brits, used to a mug & instant coffee, the glass pot with its plunger that most of us saw mainly in cafés with grandeur was not an object that we would assume to own at home.

Gradually the French Press (as known in the States), made its way into our houses.

Most of us go to cafés and bars for espressos or capuccinos. But many coffee lovers maintain that the cafetière is the best way to make coffee – as it preserves flavours and doesn’t burn the taste of the beans.

But where did it come from?

French & Italians (what a surprise…not), lay claim to it, but what we do know is that the first cafetières apperared in…France around 1850!!!
